Spaghetti Dinner Ride Update


The SSRT held it's annual Spaghetti Dinner Ride on Saturday, April 27,2013. The weather was beautiful, Gillentown Trailhead parked full and the turn out for the dinner was great. Volunteers came from various places across the state to help out for the event, along with Centre County Probation Office help too. Terry & Eileen Long, Trilby Mayes, Tom & Kathy Robbins, Ed Thomas, Lyn Carlin, Shawn Timblin, Erin Cramer, Ken & Faye Mehallow, Jim Verost, Donna Bell & Elizabeth Scalzo all did various things to help out and supervise others.
While enjoying the dinner the trail was also able to get some other work done too. Stained the kiosk out in front of the Moshannon Community Center, Collect waste from aound the center, paint some fence railing along the SSRT - Yamaha Access Control Project.
We got a new sponsor from Lancaster area, Robinson Towing and Body Repairs.

The 50/50 winner from the Spaghetti Dinner was Shawn Erdman from Northumberland, PA. He won $116.50.

Work Detail Update 4-26-13


The Centre County Probation Office supplied 11 workers along with several voluntary supervisor to perform the following work. Trash collection from Snow Shoe Ambulance Building to the yellow light in Moshannon, out rt 144 to the crossroads and back down Askey's Cemetery Road to Gillentown Trailhead. Then Up Bumbarger road and down by Ron Fyes to the Tarman Crossing. We gathered about 1 1/2 pickup loads of trash.
 
We also painted 4 gates and cleaned of  concrete slabs by each gate. Stained the railroad ties at the entrance to Gillentown Trailhead and placed a 2nd coat of stain on the wooden fence by the restrooms. The crews also applied dust control on the trail at Gillentown Trailhead and from Number 10 bridge to Clarence.
 
Then after all that work, set up the tables at the Moshannon Community Center. Alot of work was performed by a good bunch of people.
 
Then we got a picture of Henry Sorgen & his wife driving into the Gillentown Trailhead to park for the night. There were several other motor homes and trailers already parked for the weekend.

Work Detail Update 04-13-2013


 
A lot of members showed up to volunteer for the work detail on 4-13-13. Carole & Charles Jensen & Carl Schmitt led a crew to continue the brushing along the trail where Andy Basalla and Ed Thomas crew left off on March 30. The crew brushed both sides of the trail to the Rock Run Bridge. Jack Miller led a crew to finish cleaning out the trench drains on Number 10 Bridge and brushed the trail on all sides of the bridge. Brandon Brooks operated the backhoe cleaning ditchs near Gillentown Trailhead and along Number 10. Eric Brooks, George Holt led crews painting fence at Gillentown Trailhead. Jake Homan helped with some signage.  Ken Mehallow, Terry & Eileen Long and Trilby Mayes led crews collecting trash from Tennessee Turnpike to Kato Bridge. Tom & Kathy Robbins also helped with this assignment. Signs were installed on both sides of the Kato Road to help direct users of the correct trail use. Green Fluorescent paint was sprayed under each sign to also help with location or direction of trail. Warren & Joyce Frank helped to sand and paint the fence post at the end of the Gillentown Trailhead. Hoagies & beverages were provided for all workers from Jack's Snack Shack.
