Viaduct Bridge Repairs 10-22-2012

A few weeks ago someone vandalized several of the SSRTA signs near the viaduct bridge. They pulled them out of the ground and threw them off  the middle of the bridge. Jack Miller of Yarnell kept making the statement "Why would anyone want to vandalize a sign when they cost so much" Don't people realize that the SSRTA is here to provide a place for atvers to ride. He kept saying I'm going to get that sign in the middle of the Red Moshannon. Well, today, October 22, 2012, Jack met with a few of his friends, Charles & Carole Jensen and took off for the viaduct. "A man on a mission." Please see the pictures of Jack retrieving the signs. Thank you, Jack Miller, for your determination.

Tour de Forest - 2012 Update

The event is always held on the first weekend in October. Normally there are 75 to 90 miles of trails to ride. A lot of that was reduced this year as two sections of the trail were closed. The road from the Forest Lodge to the back of Marienville was one of those roads closed. It made the ride a little more difficult as we had to trailer our atv's to Marienvile and unload instead of riding from the motel.  A lot of people attending were from Ohio, New York and Pa. Frank & Sue at the Forest Lodge made it a comfortable stay under the conditions of trails being closed. This event helps sponsor the community - fire departments, Lions Club, Relay for Life, local ATV club and many others. For those not wanting to atv can tour some craft shows in surrounding towns -- Franklin, Sheffield. A couple great restaurants for breakfast & dinner. Hopefully the roads will be open for next years event.

2012 Pig Roast Update and Photos

The Pig Roast was another hugh success--although bitter sweet.  The campers, motor homes and pickup trucks pulling utility trailers started pulling in Thursday afternoon to enjoy a few days at the Gillentown Trailhead. Then, we got a call from Ed Rovenolt that he was involved in a head on collision--thankfully not hurt- After going home for a few hours, then Ed get't a call that his mother passed away. Ed did find a way to attend the event for a couple hours and then returned home to take care of family matters. The Snow Shoe Rails to Trails sends our condolences to the entire Rovenolt family.

Chris, Jim, Kyle Vangor and Joe Walters prepared the pigs again with some great stuffing. (A big thank you to them for being up all night so we could have a great meal.) Sara & Dave Bastian and Carole & Charles Jensen sliced the meat from the pigs after Chris Vangor was completed. Ed Thomas headed the parking and did a great job getting everyone in and parked in the trailhead and overflow areas. A problem was that campers arriving early parked throughout and Ed had to figure a way to fill in the blanks. -- Tuff job-- Colleen & Rich Randolph came early Friday helping out and kept a watch over the vendor area. Tracy and AJ Shissler did a great job selling  50/50 and raffle tickets. Bob Hile of Watsontown, Pa. won the 50/50 raffle which his winnings were: $228.00. Eileen & Terry Long handled the clothing while George and Sally Holt and Eric Brooks handled the applications. Erin Cramers did her fine job of taking care of the money for meals.  We did have a little rain but not enough to keep everyone from having a good time.  The SSRTA wants to thank all of those attending the event as we could not keep and maintain the trail without your support.
